The Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has received praise from the government for being the country’s first institution to support the PNG Civil &Identity Registry’s (PNGCIR) NID Project since 2018.
Peter Tsiamalili Jr., Minister for Internal Security, recently opened the new PNGCIR Office in Kiunga and thanked OTML for helping with the project.
The new office’s opened on September 9 “After successfully implementing the project for nearly five years at a cost of more than K9 million, OTML handed over the project to the North Fly District Development Authority in January 2023.

OTML launched the NID Project in Tabubil in 2018. It came equipped with two site registrars and a certificate printing machine.
84,5300 videos were registered and 75,739 birth certificates and NID Cards were issued thanks to that collaboration with PNGCIR.
Noel Mobiha, the acting registrar general of PNGCIR, also thanked OTML for establishing the standard for helping PNGCIR. There is no other organization like OTML that has helped PNGCIR register every member of its community.
So the assistance from OTML is significantly greater, according to Mr. Mobiha. Senior Socio Impact Assessment (SIA) Officer Daniel Tau, who was a representative of OTML, stated during the handover that OTML was happy and appreciative to witness the transition and commissioning of the new NID Office for the North Fly District.
