Lynk Global and PNCC introduce sat2phone technology in Palau

Lynk Global, Inc. and the Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) have revealed that Lynk’s “cell-towers-in-space” will provide satellite-direct-to-mobile phone service to the island nation. PNCC is a mobile network operator (MNO) that will offer their customers Lynk’s sat2phone technology as a service.

Since it was founded in 1982, PNCC has been the backbone of communications in Palau. It has taken on the difficult task of building the island nation’s national communications system.PNCC started by serving 200 customers in the population center of Koror. Now, it is a full-service phone company that connects people all over the archipelago.

“PNCC is coming up with new ideas to ensure that its customers can use their cell phones all over the country, no matter what. Lynk is excited to help PNCC do what many people said couldn’t be done. PNCC and Lynk are doing things that seem impossible. Lynk’s first Sat2Phone service for Palau will start as a beta service in the Southwest Islands. It will then be expanded to all remote parts of the country and the Maritime Economic Zone of Palau.

“Lynk will also provide backup services when natural disasters knock out the ground network. This will make the network more resilient in this archipelago nation,” says Charles Miller, CEO of Lynk.

Lynk is the only satellite-to-phone service in the world that has been patented, tested, and licensed for business use and is now up and running. We are excited to work with PNCC to bring this service to their customers,” Miller says.

Lynk has signed over 30 commercial deals with MNOs worldwide, showing off its technology in more than 40 countries on seven continents. Lynk plans to start business service with many other MNOs worldwide by the end of 2023.

With our partnership with Lynk, Palau is about to enter a new age of connectivity. It’s not just about high-tech; it’s also about bringing people together, joining our far-flung islands, and making the country more resilient. “PNCC CEO Simon Fraser says, “We are committed to ensuring that everyone in Palau has access to world-class internet services, no matter where they are.”
