During the first day of the Digital Government Delivery Workshop, Session 3 focused on exploring the elements of the GovPNG Technology Stack. This session offered a detailed understanding of the government’s strategy regarding cloud technology, private networking, interoperability, cyber security, standards, and compliance.
The session began with Mr. Russell Woruba, the Deputy Secretary of Digital Government at DICT, providing an introductory overview of the GovPNG Technology Stack. He highlighted the critical need for establishing a strong and secure base as a part of the government’s journey towards digital transformation.
At a recent presentation, Mr. Glen Vitou, the Manager for Government Cloud & Shared Services at DICT, provided an insightful overview of the government cloud initiative. He elaborated on the numerous advantages of cloud computing, such as cost efficiency, enhanced agility, and better collaboration opportunities.
The significance of communications infrastructure in the GovStack model was underscored by Mr. Kedesh Pinia, DICT’s Manager for Infrastructure and government Private Network. He explained the Government Private Network (GPN) architecture, focusing on its security aspects and crucial role in ensuring consistent and robust connectivity among various government agencies.
Mr. Jack Tomon, the project manager, expertly addressed the topic of interoperability. He illuminated the government’s commitment to fostering interoperability through the SDXP initiative. Mr. Tomon clarified the SDXP concept and its vital role in facilitating efficient data exchange and cooperation between different government bodies and external entities.
Lastly, Ms. Georgina Kiele, the Executive Manager for Cybersecurity, provided a comprehensive overview of the cybersecurity strategies implemented to safeguard government systems and data. She stressed the critical role of user awareness and training in thwarting cyber threats.
In a recent discussion, Mr. Benedict Sike, the Manager of Digital Government Standards, highlighted standards’ critical role in maintaining the quality and compatibility of government IT systems. He stressed the significance of adopting open standards to prevent vendor lock-in and to ensure systems are interoperable.
Mr. George Memafu, the Compliance Advisor, addressed the compliance aspects of the GovPNG Technology Stack. He provided insights into the various regulations and compliance obligations that government agencies must meet when deploying IT systems. His emphasis was on the necessity of adhering to data privacy laws, accessibility standards, and other pertinent regulations.
These presentations on the GovPNG Technology Stack underscored the government’s dedication to creating a secure and scalable infrastructure for its digital transformation initiatives.
As the leading ICT agency, the Department of ICT is adopting a Whole-of-Government strategy to align with digital government via the Gov Stack. This approach fosters a more efficient, effective, citizen-focused, and service-oriented digital government.
