Pacific Islands Forum Delegation Discusses Advancements in Technology, Healthcare, and Economic Strategies

The Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) delegation convened this week with multiple leaders from the American Samoa government and various non-profit organizations. The purpose of these meetings was to gather information to prepare a report, which will be presented to the PIF Board of Directors on behalf of American Samoa in its pursuit of associate membership. The discussions addressed crucial topics including technology and connectivity, people-centered development, resource-based economic development, and healthcare.

His Excellency Ratu William Toganivalu, the Fiji Roving Ambassador to Pacific Island Countries and Territories and Agencies of the Council of Regional Organizations of the Pacific, expressed his gratitude to the American Samoa Government (ASG) and the people of American Samoa for their warm hospitality. He mentioned that the delegation would utilize the collected information to prepare a report, which will be presented to the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Board of Directors on behalf of American Samoa.

Mr. Tenuanua Nicole, the Governance Officer from PIF, expressed his appreciation for the comprehensive program, which encompassed site visits, consultations, and presentations from various ASG departments and the private sector. He found these activities extremely beneficial in meeting the criteria set by PIF. Mr. Nicole highlighted that he has observed American Samoa’s eagerness and commitment to engage with other Pacific Islands through numerous collaborative projects, showcasing the territory’s strong integration with the Pacific region.

Lt. Governor La’apui Talauega Ale also expressed gratitude for the visit, saying, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to His Excellency Ratu William Toganivalu and Mr. Tenuanua Nicole for joining us and contributing to our efforts to join the Pacific Islands Forum. Your insights and the exchange of information have been invaluable. We look forward to fostering a relationship that will benefit not only American Samoa but also our Pacific neighbors in the future.
