Papua New Guinea’s mining sector is undergoing a major transformation, with Phase 2 of the Wharf construction at the Central Cement and Lime Project making significant progress.
Mining Minister Wake Goi and Kairuku-Hiri MP Keith Iduhu recently visited the site, commending the strides made in the country’s first greenfield mining venture since 2008.
Minister Goi highlighted the project’s role in reducing reliance on imports by locally producing essential building materials such as quick lime and cement, which will support infrastructure development across the country.
“This project aligns with our strategic vision of utilizing mineral resources for self-sufficiency and sustainable growth,” he stated.
As part of the government’s Special Economic Zone policies, the project aims to attract foreign investment and promote downstream processing.
Prime Minister James Marape reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to value-added production, emphasizing its potential to stimulate job creation and economic expansion.
With ongoing development, the project is set to bring widespread benefits, from employment opportunities to community empowerment, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable economic progress.
