Effective strategies unveiled at ICT Workshop

This month, a key stakeholder workshop convened to foster knowledge exchange and craft strategies to address hurdles in website development standards for government agencies, propelling the sector into the future.

The workshop saw attendance from top officials across crucial government departments, spearheaded by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Representatives from the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council (PMNEC), the Department of Treasury, the Department of Commerce and Industry, the PNG Digital ICT Cluster, and the Romanian Cluj IT – TYPO3 Association also contributed their perspectives.

Joshua Honnes, DICT’s Senior Web Developer, underscored the department’s trailblazing role in setting website development norms across the government sector by employing the latest technology and groundbreaking ICT tools.

“DICT is leading the charge in setting website development standards within the government, ensuring the integration of advanced technology and ICT tools,” Honnes affirmed.

The collaboration between DICT and the Cluj IT Cluster TYPO3 Association stems from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked at the Dubai Expo 2022. The MoU concretizes a mutual commitment to offering best practices advice, technical backing, and policy guidance.

The crux of the workshop revolved around standardizing website development within PNG.

Presentations from DICT elucidated the current challenges, and the Cluj IT TYPO3 Association proposed a multitude of solutions. Given the extensive reach of the government, comprising 33 departments, 22 provincial governments, 121 districts, and 22 provincial health authorities, the primary goal is to ensure each government body establishes a digital footprint through website development.

DICT is working towards this goal, drawing on previous partnerships with Unitech and the PNG Digital ICT Cluster to develop website norms and stimulate collaborations that fortify local ICT businesses. The initiative ensures that every government agency has an online presence facilitated by a centralized content management system. This will ensure consistency and progress across the nation.
