TechInPacific – Telecom is one of the regional communication operators in oceaniac. This operator has cooperated with the SES Network in expanding the communication network in the Solomon Islands. This collaboration is expected to improve cellular and internet services in the Solomon Islands. The collaboration is included in contract leasing on SES’s Geofasioner Earth Orbit (GEO) fleet. Where this collaboration is believed to be able to improve the communication and information network so that people in the Solomon Islands can share information and easily communicate with people outside the Solomon Islands.
This collaboration has been proven by the establishment of 4G / LTE networks throughout the Solomon Islands using the constellation of O3b Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) Networks last November. After building this 4G / LTE network, new cooperation contracts will be created to improve connectivity in response to increased consumption of data from residents and companies.
One of the challenges in building a communication and information network in the Solomon Islands is the variety of the nation’s geography and the needs of its internet end-users. Therefore, the construction of this communication and information network based on the GEO-MEO joint network will work to improve communication and information services from the capital of the Solomon Islands, Honiara, to its outer territories.
