Fiji Advances Toward a Digital Payment Future

Fiji has made significant progress toward becoming a cashless society.

This advancement comes as Vodafone’s M-PAiSA and Digicel’s MyCash mobile wallets are now fully integrated into the National Payment System (NPS) operated by the Reserve Bank of Fiji. For Vodafone M-PAiSA, this milestone represents years of dedication to delivering innovative financial solutions to its customers.

With this new integration, M-PAiSA and MyCash users will be able to transfer money in near real time between their banks and mobile wallets, and vice versa.

The integration encompasses all commercial banks, including ANZ, Baroda, Bred, BSP, HFC, and Westpac.

Vodafone Fiji Chief Executive Elenoa Biukoto stated that the connection to the NPS will facilitate greater economic activity due to the ease of cash flow. “The launch of the NPS is a testament to a collective determination to empower citizens and drive economic prosperity for all Fijians, regardless of their status and geographical location.”

Digicel’s Head of Mobile Financial Services, Anup Kumar, emphasized that this development will enhance financial inclusion, improving the lives of many individuals. “This also marks a significant change in the Fijian economy and establishes a digital platform for financial services for the unbanked and those outside the financial system.”

RBF Governor Arif Ali noted that this advancement is much more than just a technological upgrade, highlighting that it represents a leap toward a more inclusive, connected, and user-friendly financial ecosystem.
