The Fiji-Australia and Australia Business Councils Joint Forum plays a crucial role in enhancing economic cooperation by introducing innovative strategies and solutions. This sentiment was emphasized by the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lenora Qereqeretabua, during her address at the forum held today at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Qereqeretabua recognized Australia’s significant role as Fiji’s largest source of tourism, a key trade partner, the most varied export destination, and a major market for remittances, supported by a substantial investor base.
She noted that Fiji’s strategic position as a central hub in the Pacific region provides improved access to emerging trade markets, which holds substantial potential for the export of Fijian agricultural products, including taro, ginger, kava, mahogany, and coconut oil.
Qereqeretabua highlighted that from August 2023 to January this year, Fiji saw the registration of 15 investment projects from Australia, primarily in sectors such as Information & Communications Technology (ICT), renewable energy, and tourism, showcasing the strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
She encouraged the forum delegates to collaborate on creating innovative strategies to tackle new business challenges and to explore adaptable and dynamic economic recovery opportunities.
