As technological advancements rise, they bring increased cybersecurity threats, creating significant challenges for the Fijian government in building an effective cybersecurity framework.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, highlighted that Fiji has ratified the Budapest Convention, providing a global framework to help the country build a robust cybersecurity infrastructure.
He added that the ministry is currently setting up a national computer emergency response task force to monitor cyberattacks closely and implement effective remediation measures.
“You may have heard about the attack on the Suva City Council, and we expect such incidents to rise as Fiji becomes more connected through Google. Faster access to Fiji brings significant risk,” he noted.
He stressed the importance of ethical development focused on enhancing productivity and efficiency, rather than resulting in negative outcomes like deception.
