On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, SME Start-Up Kits were distributed to mothers in the Deka Circuit of the Lutheran Church to promote entrepreneurship among women. Theo Pelgen, the Nawaeb Member of Parliament, shared that these kits, which include sewing machines and laptop rolls, are designed to empower women at the village level, equipping them with the necessary tools to initiate their businesses. Expressing contentment with the program’s progress, MP Pelgen emphasized that the initiative has reached a significant portion of the Wain/Erap LLG in the district. “We aim to empower women directly at the village level, enabling them to kickstart their businesses,” Pelgen stated, underscoring the crucial role of grassroots empowerment in this endeavor.
Mothers in the Nawaeb District are empowered to create and sell kolos, bedsheets, and pillow sheets through kits provided by the local MP. Encouraged to establish business profiles, register associations, and open bank accounts; these efforts lay the foundation for future growth.
Rebecca Michael, the NDDA Women’s Representative, emphasizes the importance of valuing and utilizing the support, assuring mothers that more assistance will follow. The distribution, in collaboration with the Lutheran Church Parish, targets specific areas such as Caperak Corner Parish, Busung Parish, and Boac (Yambo, Wideru & Boac Villages), aligning with the dominant Lutheran Church presence in Nawaeb.
Rebecca Michael reveals plans for future collaboration with Pentecostal and mainstream churches in the district, expanding SME support to a broader audience next year. The Laulu Circuit distribution for Labuta LLG is set to commence tomorrow, marking the expansion of this empowering initiative.
