Palau Partners with TEPCO on Renewable Energy Technology Agreement

The government of Palau has entered into an agreement with Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. (TEPCO) for technical cooperation in renewable energy. As part of this collaboration, Palau, which is targeting the procurement of all its electricity from renewable sources by 2032, will focus on advancing the establishment of solar power generation and related infrastructure. The agreement outlines that TEPCO will provide support in developing the necessary technologies for the installation of solar power generation facilities, power grids, and storage batteries in the Pacific island nation, aiding in its efforts to achieve decarbonization.

On Tuesday, a signing ceremony for the agreement took place in Koror, the largest city of Palau. The event was attended by Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. and TEPCO President Tomoaki Kobayakawa. During the ceremony, Whipps emphasized that Palau requires a partner to ensure a cost-effective and stable power supply.

The introduction of renewable energies in Pacific island nations was previously agreed upon during a summit held in Tokyo in July. This latest agreement between Palau and TEPCO was signed in accordance with that accord.
