The Papua New Guinea Education Department has introduced an innovative solution to tackle the challenges of project fund management. The My Project Management System (MPMS) software, unveiled on Thursday, May 30, represents a major advancement in the department’s efforts to streamline operations and enhance transparency in project execution.
During the launch event, Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra highlighted the urgent need for a standardized method to manage project reports. Dr. Kombra stressed the importance of presenting project data in a consistent and easily comprehensible format to ensure effective monitoring and accountability.
He acknowledged the challenges of managing multiple projects simultaneously, especially in terms of fund allocation and utilization. Dr. Kombra pointed out the limitations of the department’s small project implementation unit and emphasized the need for a comprehensive management solution to coordinate activities and monitor expenditure accurately.
The MPMS, developed by the local software firm INDTechlabs based in Port Moresby, provides a comprehensive set of tools aimed at empowering project managers to track various aspects of project performance until completion. Indira Ramesh, the Managing Director of INDTechlabs, highlighted the software’s user-friendly nature, ensuring it is accessible to department personnel.
Before the official launch, extensive training sessions were held with project managers and departmental staff to ensure a smooth transition to the new system. Ramesh underscored the collaborative efforts undertaken to tailor the MPMS to the specific needs and requirements of the Papua New Guinea Education Department.
The introduction of the MPMS marks a significant advancement in the department’s pursuit of efficient project management and accountability. As the department continues to navigate the complexities of project implementation, the MPMS is set to enhance coordination and facilitate informed decision-making for future projects.
