PNCC management and technical staff have successfully wrapped up a comprehensive workshop on the latest advancements in 5G and Open RAN technologies and operations
Open Radio Access Network, or O-RAN, represents a cutting-edge approach to constructing mobile networks, empowering PNCC to deliver swifter and more accessible 4G and 5G services to its esteemed clientele. Unlike conventional networks, O-RAN facilitates PNCC to integrate equipment from diverse vendors, enhancing network flexibility and cost efficiency, ensuring sustained excellence and top-notch performance. This translates to enhanced mobile coverage and internet speeds for all residents of Palau.
The workshop conducted in Palau received vital support from a Technical Assistance grant courtesy of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). This grant equips PNCC with the necessary funding for the initial phase of the project, aimed at developing a cutting-edge mobile telecom network utilizing 5G Open RAN technology. The project’s scope includes expanding the mobile network coverage to underserved regions through the establishment of new cell sites.
Widelity, a respected U.S. provider of engineering consulting services, was chosen to facilitate the workshop and support PNCC in developing comprehensive training and detailed plans for the new system.
This project exemplifies PNCC’s dedication to delivering top-tier connectivity services to our customers and solidifying Palau’s position as a pioneering force in digital transformation among the Pacific Island nations.
