Starlink Granted License to Operate in Sri Lanka

Starlink has received the green light to offer satellite broadband services in Sri Lanka, a South Asian nation with a population of approximately 22 million. The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has granted Starlink a service provider license, allowing the company to bring its broadband services to customers in this new market. The official announcement was made on August 13.

This development comes after a recent meeting between Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Elon Musk in Indonesia. During the meeting, they discussed accelerating the application process to bring Starlink to Sri Lanka, with the goal of enhancing the country’s access to high-speed internet through satellite technology. Musk’s visit to Indonesia in May coincided with the expansion of Starlink services to Indonesia and Fiji.

With the license now in effect, Starlink Lanka is authorized to provide satellite broadband services throughout the country. This move is seen as a significant advancement for Sri Lanka as it strives to expand access to high-speed internet for more of its population.
