The concept plans for the development of the new state-of-the-art Telecom ICT Park have been made public. These plans are expected to completely change Fiji’s IT industry and the growing BPO sector.
Charles Goundar, the CEO of Telecom Fiji, says that they are very excited about this project because it will open up a lot of possibilities and give young people who want to work in engineering or information and communications technology (ICT) a chance to do so.
Goundar says they are grateful to the government for helping them with this big project and working with them.
The park will have a research and development centre where students and businesses can simulate and test new ICT technologies. It will also have an incubation centre for computing science graduates and new business owners who want to work on specific projects and look into options for setting up their businesses.
The data centre will host several major content platforms, like Google, Netflix, Facebook, and TikTok, that are already hosted in the Telecom network. This will make it easier for Fiji to get other major content providers to think about hosting their platforms in Fiji.
Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Minister of Communications, announced the Telecom ICT park in the 2021 National Budget.
