Vodafone Samoa has reiterated its commitment to supporting Lakapi Samoa, emphasizing that this support aligns with one of its core values and its role in fostering the development and progress of rugby in Samoa.
Vodafone Samoa’s recent decision to temporarily halt its rugby sponsorship followed a thorough analysis of the company’s sponsorship portfolio and the prevailing market conditions.
“This decision will continue to promote sportsmanship and nurture talent at the grassroots level in Samoa. We look forward to working closely with Lakapi Samoa to achieve shared goals and create memorable results in the long term,” stated Vodafone Samoa Chief Executive Officer Rana Bose.
In sports sponsorship, decisions are frequently influenced by strategic considerations, financial evaluations, and the overarching objective of supporting communities and encouraging growth. Our recent choice to temporarily withdraw from sponsoring rugby was not made lightly but was based on an extensive review of our sponsorship portfolio and the market dynamics at the time.
Conversely, we engaged in positive discussions with enthusiasts, internal teams, and the rugby community. During a challenging period for the sport, this opportunity enabled us to reassess our objectives, incorporate user feedback, and understand the broader impact of our sponsorship on the development of rugby and its players.
What emerged from these discussions was a reaffirmation of our dedication to rugby and its core values. Rugby, with its rich tradition of camaraderie, resilience, and inclusivity, aligns closely with our own corporate ethos. We recognize its ability to unite communities, inspire the nation, and nurture talents.
“We look forward to deepening our partnerships, exploring new avenues for collaboration, and championing the sport’s evolution together. As we embark on this next chapter, we are grateful for the continued support of our partners, stakeholders, and the entire rugby family.”
Vincent Fepuleai, CEO of Lakapi Samoa, stated, “Lakapi Samoa is excited to re-sign with Vodafone and we are eager to strengthen this partnership and see the benefits it will bring to the growth of rugby in Samoa for the future.”
Vodafone Samoa, in collaboration with Lakapi Samoa, aims to build on the legacy of excellence, sportsmanship, and passion that characterizes rugby. The specifics and the monetary value of the agreement have not been disclosed to the public.
