Vodafone Samoa pledges to deliver 5G speed for CHOGM in October.

Vodafone Samoa is committed to delivering high-speed internet at an affordable price with the upcoming launch of its 5G network. The network is expected to be operational by October, coinciding with Samoa’s hosting of CHOGM.

Vodafone Samoa’s Chief Executive Officer, Rana Bose, announced the launch of its 5G network at the Taumeasina Resort last night.

Bose stated that Vodafone Samoa is diligently working to ensure the 5G network is operational before the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October 2024.

In her keynote speech, Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa emphasized that this event marks a significant milestone, demonstrating Samoa’s prowess as a small island nation in the ICT sector.

Samoa is on the brink of making significant strides towards technological excellence, positioning itself to join the ranks of developed nations.

“This demonstrates Vodafone Samoa’s dedication to Samoa and represents a major milestone in Samoa’s technological advancement,” stated Fiame.

“The Prime Minister highlighted the transformative potential of 5G technology, emphasizing its capacity to revolutionize communication and drive unprecedented progress across diverse economic sectors.”

The introduction of 5G represents more than just a telecommunication infrastructure upgrade; it signifies a dedication to innovation.

Vodafone’s Roll-out plan

CEO Bose announced that the rollout plan for Vodafone Samoa will extend coverage to the entire country, aligning with their commitment that “no one should be left behind.”

5G technology is expected to be ten times faster than current services, which will greatly benefit businesses, education, and healthcare.

He stated that the cost for Phase 1 would be $13 million, which will encompass the installation of 6 new towers in Savaii and Upolu.

Phase 2 will involve expanding coverage to include additional sites.

5G technology offers high-speed internet at affordable rates, aids in remote surgery and education, provides a dependable business network, supports autonomous vehicles, and much more.

Vodafone Samoa is preparing to launch its 5G network ahead of the CHOGM in October.
