High School students, buy at least 100 Flex cards per week so they can do their studies online.
Kokomba Moso, Deputy Principal – Administration, said students and employees may now easily access material online thanks to the placement of four Pi digital libraries – hand-sized mini-computers – around campus.
Daniel Bailey, a former Wawin student who now works as a commercial executive for Digicel PNG in Lae, came up with the idea for the project. He did this through the Digicel Foundation’s staff grants program.
Bailey told the students about the problems he had when he was a student there. He said there was only one cell operator back then and that if the students wanted to call their parents, they had to take a PMV for 25 minutes to the main road to get service.
Mipla leit lo PMV em mipla wakabaut kam bek ken ya,” he remarked. “It was that hard to do lo taim blo mipla.
We didn’t have any computer laboratories. We had a library, but the school had just started, so that’s how we did our research and other things. So, when the Digicel Foundation grant opportunity came up, I applied for the e-library project.
Please take care of what we’ve given you. And don’t forget that you are now lucky. We had trouble when we were alive. It was hard because there was no internet.
It’s completely free. You do not have to use Flex to get data.
“I’m proud to give back to my school, and at least we’ll have more good students graduate and go to college, which will keep Wawin’s reputation as a school of excellence.”
Dom, a 2004 Wawin graduate, noted that each gadget has 500GB of data.
The Wikipedia encyclopedia is the device’s main component. Therefore, it’s a whole encyclopedia up to May 2022,” Dom explained.
There is also a site named “Project Gutenberg,” with over 60,000 free electronic books.
There’s also the Khan Academy, founded by an Indian professor who immigrated to America. He was usually busy teaching at the university and felt he was neglecting his children, so he said, ‘Maybe I might start making videos for my children so they can learn by themselves when I’m busy.’
So he started doing this, and many people joined him and assisted. They made video lessons and tests for kids in grades 5 through 12. So everything is there
You may watch the videos on your Android phones or computers and save them to your devices.
The digital library also has dictionaries, maps, atlases, and introductory videos from TED Talks.
Users can only access information in digital libraries.
Sharlene Tringin, the head girl at Wawin, thanked the foundation for helping them learn and said that future Wawin students would also benefit from the digital libraries.
